The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and lead the USA Applications Engineering team (up to 5 AEs)
    • Understand Gorilla Glass products and technology to provide mentorship and support to the North China AE team.
    • Maintain, allocate and assign resources of the USA AE team to most effectively serve Gorilla Glass customers and business.
    • Be responsible to the Gorilla Glass WWAE Manager for the effective operations of the USA AE team.
  • Apply existing Gorilla Glass business processes effectively and rigorously.  Require such from direct reports and enforce compliance.  Set example to USA and other Gorilla Glass AE groups and commercial employees for application of Gorilla Glass business processes.  Identify, develop and implement opportunities for business process improvement, including corrective actions to existing processes and drafting of new ones.
  • Serve as an effective Gorilla Glass Applications Engineer
  • Assist account managers with technical aspects of customer relationships
  • Negotiate external product specifications for GG products.
  • Gain specification agreement with customers buying GG products
  • Organize internal response to product quality disagreements with customers and represent the outcome to the customer.
  • Provide the customer technical interface between GG and assigned customers
  • Act as point of contact for customers’ technical information requests.
  • Provide technical assistance to the customers’ manufacturing and sales operations.
  • Prepare and maintain (and present as required internally and externally) technical and product related training presentations to assist customers.
  • Identify new product and application opportunities for Corning products (GG or others) at customers or otherwise in the field and report them back internally for assessment and development.
  • Represent the customer perspective on GG internal projects
  • Represent department and customers on internal projects
  • Assume added leadership roles on internal projects as necessary
  • Provide training as required (inside and outside the department) for assigned areas of technical specialty


Travel: up to 25%


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field.  Engineering degrees preferred. 
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Degree in glass technology, ceramics or materials highly preferred
  • At least five years’ work experience in current field
  • 3 years of experience with a global company and/or team
  • 2+ years of supervisor experience
  • Experience in ion exchanged glass technology preferred
  • Experience in Consumer Electronics preferred

  • Knowledge (or ability to learn quickly) of chemically strengthened (ion exchanged)  technology and consumer Electronics cover glass applications (training will be provided)
