The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies.  Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes.  IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

Role Purpose: Serve as a link between the business unit and/or corporate and the developer or development team to ensure that detailed application and environment design specifications for new or changed system functionality are clearly communicated and understood. Oversee systems development and testing to ensure final product meets required specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interact with customer to gather and define requirements from both a business and systems perspective by interpreting business needs and translating them to technical requirements and specifications to meet the need.
  • Review and respond to documented issues related to a project (through a help ticket or other written documentation) and define requirements to address the issue.
  • Train and develop junior team members in technical areas through one-on-one development and ensure all necessary data is provided to trainers.
  • Maintain status of SME on specific area of knowledge by researching and keeping current with new and anticipated technology within their area and related areas of expertise.
  • Implement components (e.g. program, specifications, order, build, etc.) for complex IT solutions for new business demands and maintenance of business.
  • Provide oversight of development work. Monitor the quality of the output to ensure end product meets required specifications.
  • Trouble-shoot more complex applications, infrastructure problems or other IT problem that may have a significant impact on the business.
  • Estimate time and materials costs plus all other elements of Project Initiation process for IT or business projects.
  • Govern or act as a gate keeper for the quality of the Corning systems.
  • Serve as the technical lead on projects by participating as project resource representing their team’s area of responsibility/area of expertise.

Role Profile:

  • Continuously looking at how to do things better or differently for current work or for application in other situations such as Windows applications, back up processes and responses, and application of software such as Citrix, application security, etc.
  • Feedback from customer satisfaction data (qualitative).
  • Case closure rate for resolving specific problems or issues.
  • Project timeline execution for specific part of project responsible for.
  • Extent to which meets Individual Performance measures (objectives for specific work assigned to the individual).
  • Extent to which makes decisions independent of supervisor as appropriate for area in which individual is a SME.


  • B.A. / B.S. (in any field) degree
  • Relevant work experience in a corporate technical customer service environment
  • Experience in an enterprise setting - large sized and broad scope organization similar to Corning
  • 5 - 10 years relevant work experience in IT – in a large enterprise environment
  • Readiness to take on responsibility, trustworthiness, flexibility
  • Ability work in teams
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Proficient in creating reports using SSRS, developing software in .NET and T-SQL, supporting existing .NET-based applications


  • Ideally having experience with GE Proficy, Allen-Bradley PLCs and Factory Talk
  • Familiarity with OPC, PI, PI-Admin, Factory Talk and RSLinx
  • Familiarity with SSIS and SSAS
  • MS Office Suite proficiency
  • Manufacturing systems experience
  • Familiarity with Peoplesoft, Outlook
  • Worked for some period of time and demonstrated consistency in work; counted on to work with minimal supervision with quality and not rework and can manage parts of projects and are technologically competent
  • Experience in a role where there was a balance of emphasis on understanding and supporting the business with technology
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills
  • Global experience preferred but not essential
