This internship position will work directly with the Merck De Soto, KS Engineering Department. The work is related to various aspects of biotechnology manufacturing.  This will include facility layout / design, specifications for equipment, development of construction / installation documents and construction / project management.  The overall goal is to gain an understanding of the role as a manufacturing project engineer.
  • Work directly with a project engineer and consulting engineers on an actual project(s).
  • Develop an understanding of biotech manufacturing processes from seed scale-up to packaging.
  • Gain an understanding of critical biotech support utilities and Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Learn inter-department communications skills necessary to make a project successful.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have good multitasking and problem solving skills.
  • Intern will learn industrial safety practices and is responsible for adhering to all Merck Safety, Health, Environmental, GMP and regulatory requirements (as required by task).

Education Minimum Requirement:  
  • Currently enrolled and will have completed junior year of a Bachelors of Engineering program in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biotech Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management or related fields.
  • Should be able to work full time for 9-12 weeks during the summer of 2018 and return back to school in fall of 2018 on completion of the assignment
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and undergo federal background check for access to classified systems.
  • Position may include weekend or off-hour shift work.
