This internship position will work directly with the Maintenance/Utility Department and in conjunction with the Engineering Department.  Primary role will be to work with both utility and production equipment and gain a general understanding in facility and manufacturing maintenance and engineering.  Projects and tasks will be assigned based availability and skill level.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of DeSoto facilities, operations, and personnel.  
  • Co-op will also be involved in several ongoing projects for streamlining operations and maximizing results.
  • This position will involve direct communication and collaboration with multiple departments and vendors.
  • Co-op will be exposed to all aspects of plant site operations including GMP and GLP environments.
  • Comprehensive training will be provided departmental software which includes SAP Preventative Maintenance and Siemens Insight Building Management software.
  • Work with minimum supervision, excellent multitasking and problem solving skills required.
  • Responsible for learning and adhering to all Merck Safety, Health, Environmental, GMP and regulatory requirements (as required by task).


Education Minimum Requirement:  

  • Currently enrolled and will have completed sophomore year in a Bachelors program in Business & Engineering, Engineering, Chemical Engineering Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Should be able to work full time for 9-12 weeks in summer of 2018 and return back to school on completion of assignment

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and undergo federal background check for access to classified systems.
  • Position may include weekend or off-hour shift work.      
Preferred Experience and Skills: 
  • Limited or no previous work experience/first Intern
