MerckAnimal Health is a leading manufacturer of vaccines for animal health.  We are offering a summer internshipopportunity at our DeSoto, Kansas R&D facility as a member of a researchteam developing new solutions for protection of bovine and porcine speciesagainst infectious disease pathogens. In this role, you will gain first-handexperience in what it takes to bring a vaccine to the commercial market.  The intern will learn and performlaboratory procedures used during the development of vaccines, which mayinclude but will not be limited to bacterial and virological assays, tissueculture, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, and PCR. The internship may alsoinvolve work with animals.


Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:   
  • The candidate must be enrolled in a bachelor program in a Life Science discipline of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or Animal Science.
  • The candidate must be returning to school after completing this internship in fall of 2018
  • The candidate should be able to work full time for 9-12 weeks during the summer of 2018
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Completion of at least the sophomore year in a bachelor program in a Life Science discipline of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or Animal Science.  
  • The intern should be committed to making an active contribution to team goals
 
Preferred Experience and Skills: 
  • Experience working in a science laboratory and applicable safety procedures. 
  • A working knowledge of basic laboratory techniques and general microbiological, biochemical, immunological principles.
  • Have general computer skills in word processing and data management.
  • Have excellent communication skills, be thorough and methodical about planned experiments, and have the ability to keep accurate records.
