General Description of Duties:
The Epic Team Manager (Ambulatory) has primary responsibility for managing the resources directly tasked with the design, build, testing, validation, and ongoing support of applications in the Ambulatory/Physician suite of applications in the Epic system. The incumbent is ultimately responsible to insure that the design, build, test, validation and ongoing support of the applications are completed on time and to meet the users need. The incumbent is responsible for day?to?day coordination of the work group in their span of control. The Epic Team Manager within the Epic Program reports to and supports their respective Director and has responsibility to coordinate/facilitate Epic projects with the Epic Project Team and Director. In this role, they assist in goal setting, planning, and tracking of budget for the Epic Project Team in their span of control. Participates with Epic Team Members, ITS and Operational Patient Care services activities as requested in order to successfully implement Epic across the enterprise, the Epic Team Manager coordinates with the leadership and staff of JMH, and the JMPN. Serves as a resource/mentor for staff, acts as champion for Epic project related activities, develops policies and procedures meeting regulatory requirements.
Manages the Epic project team members in their span of control.
Promotes the Epic Program Guiding Principals with customers and staff.
Uses effective communication.
Prepares or assists in developing budget.
Controls expenses and/or maximizes profitability.
Processes and completes financial documents, e.g., purchase orders, invoices, and timecards.

Serves as an active member of the Epic Project Team, participating in all levels of technology needs assessments, strategic planning, priority setting, resource utilization, and project management.
Independently seeks opportunity to identify and streamline inefficiencies through the use of information systems and process re-design.
Coordinates/prioritizes project plans and project scope through the director to assure organizational objectives are met.
Provides project management and support duties as required.
Provides coordination between Epic Project Team, ITS, Director and patient care staff of project tasks, site visits, and meetings.
Supports and acts as a resource to other departments.
Serves as an effective liaison between Epic Project Team and clinicians.
Acts as a liaison for the director when immediate contact with the Director is not available.
Comply with the Health System's Polices/Procedures protecting patient information and the confidentiality of the information in accordance with the Federal and State regulations.
Comply with ITS Security policies and procedures.
Must be available for on?call or after hours flexible work schedule.
Other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions include:
Reports to: Epic Program Director
Attainment of a Baccalaureate level education required.
Minimum of five years healthcare experience required, with at least two in the ambulatory or physician practice setting, with knowledge of current patient care standards and practices.
Minimum of five years of management experience, with at least two in the ambulatory area.
Prior experience with Epic or Epic implementation is strongly desired.
Proven ability to manage and mentor a team in a fast-paced environment is required.
Experience in information technology or related experience as manager, project leader, or in supervisory position is required, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Previous experience in the implementation, support, maintenance or training of operational or clinical information systems is desirable.
Ability to demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to demonstrate skills in organization, prioritization, leadership, project management, communication and personal computing products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Proven ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral form with physicians, clinicians, senior management, and co-workers.
Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical and clinical expertise.
Demonstrate ease in exercising initiative, good judgment, good problem solving, and decision making.
Ability to learn new technologies/tools and evaluate applicability and fit to John Muir Healths user community.
Strong desire to enhance clinical practice with technology.
Experience with re-engineering process and change theory helpful.
