| Description |
Basic Qualification • BS Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management or related areas required. • Experience in industrial safety or environmental compliance ( 5 years) • A thorough understanding of OSHA and EPA regulations and standards required. • Experience with process hazard analysis methodology. • Experience with typical chemical/ pharmaceutical process personal protective equipment programs and use. • Emergency Response Certification (Technician level preferred). • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects within agreed timelines. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels within the organization. Ability to lead and participate in team assignments. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Details • Develop, implement, manage, and maintain site safety and environmental programs that comply with regulatory codes and GSK standards. Areas to be covered include: hazard communication, fire safety, industrial hygiene, process safety management, operations and maintenance safety practices, emergency response, biosafety, radiation safety, and environmental compliance. • Develop and manage an active safety committee consisting of management, plant operations staff, lab personnel, maintenance, engineering, and contract employees in order to maintain a high level of awareness of safety hazards and related rules. • Develop, conduct, and document safety and environmental training for site employees and contractors to ensure familiarity with required safety procedures and programs. • Develop and manage a program to identify and evaluate the hazards of plant and support operations and develop action plans to control risks and reduce accidents or injuries that may result from these hazards. • Conduct or facilitate incident investigations following accidents, injuries, or nearmiss situations, identifying the root cause and supporting the effort to develop a plan to minimize future repeat situations. • Provide safety and environmental guidance to facility management and engineering staff on design, specification, selection, and use of process equipment, facility design, processing suggestions, and related operational procedures. • Plan, conduct or support plant safety or environmental audits resulting in an action list of corrections to improve safety conditions. Follow up on those lists to ensure timely completion. • Advise management of the facility’s environmental and safety status, pending regulatory changes, and their budgetary impact. • Provide reports as required to environmental agencies and/ or GSK management. • Develop and maintain a plant emergency response team in a state of readiness to minimize the immediate impact of potential plant emergencies. • Lead efforts to identify and implement waste minimization programs, energy and utility conservation efforts, and recycling projects. |
