Basic Qualification • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (e.g. environmental or safety management, engineering or science). • Minimum of 3 years experience in environmental, health and safety management and/or regulatory compliance programs Details Job Purpose: Support EHS Lead in developing and implementing EHS programmes at Oak Hill to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and GSK Standards, and ensure that EHS-related risks and impacts are effectively managed. Act as a champion for EHS issues at all levels of the site organisation and work with site managers, supervisors and other staff to help them improve EHS management and performance in their areas of responsibility. The role day-to-day support for operations.
This position is a 18-24 month assignment at the GSK site in Oak Hill, NY. Position is based at Oak Hill, NY. Requirements: • Minimum of 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (e.g. environmental or safety management, engineering or science). • Minimum of 3 years experience in environmental, health and safety management and/or regulatory compliance programs
Specialised Knowledge - Preferred Requirements: Qualifications • Member of relevant professional EHS institution (e.g. American Society of Safety Engineers, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists). • Progressing towards attaining additional EHS qualifications such as CHMM, CSP, or CIH. EHS Knowledge • Sound grasp of EHS principles, e.g. management systems, risk assessment and various hierarchies of control. • Detailed understanding of requirements and practical implementation of federal, state and local EHS legislation, including NYDEC, OSHA, HAZMAT, DOT, IATA, CWA, RCRA, EPA, SARA, and RTK. • Detailed knowledge of EHS issues most relevant to Oak Hill, ie machinery safety (zero access), chemical agents, ergonomics, occupational and environmental noise, workplace transport and waste management. • Ability to collect, manage, analyse, and interpret EHS data for professional and lay audiences; Other Specialised Knowledge • Ability to apply Operational Excellence/Lean Sigma tools and techniques to EHS issues. Key Responsibilities: • Gather and collect data related EHS objectives, metrics and targets that reflect local needs and are aligned with GMS and legal expectations. Identify and support actions necessary to ensure these are achieved. • Conduct and document work place risk assessments, action plans and implementation of related corrective measures. • Coordinate local business continuity, emergency response, and crisis management plans. Assist the EHSS lead in testing the plans with realistic scenarios. • Conduct and evaluate EHS training and provide coaching on EHS risks and programmes. • Assist in investigations into serious adverse events. • Co-ordinate Level 1 and 2 Audit programmes to assess compliance with legal and GSK requirements and identify opportunities for improvement. • Champion a strong safety culture across the site and maximise personnel involvement in EHS-related activities. • Work with S&E, CIRM, EH&P and FM Global to ensure effective liability and risk avoidance.
