Basic Qualification The Manager/Director in the VPoC DPU will have a strong scientific understanding of cell/ Molecular Biology and/or Biochemistry and pharmacology. The successful candidate will have a PhD with 5-10 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry. Expertise in Discovery Biology and excellent leadership credentials is essential as is a record of accomplishments in Discovery Biology and leading/managing research programs in a complex matrix organization. High degree of leadership, project and people management skills. Highly effective and varied communication approaches to influence significant business outcomes, including strong influencing and negotiating skills and resourcefulness. Credibility needed to build and manage internal and external business partner relationships at all levels. Ability to effectively champion and lead change throughout the organization, and adapt to changing priorities. Ability to learn new areas, be flexible and willing to do what is essential for the benefit of the programs regardless of expertise. Must have “can do” attitude. Details The Virtual Proof of Concept (VPoC) DPU aims to advance high quality drug discovery programs in a virtual setting with external partners and CROs. The major responsibility for this job is to ensure that the drug discovery programs within VPoC that are likely to deliver high value to the business are identified and progressed efficiently and effectively through Proof of Concept in humans.
This person will be accountable for identification, selection and execution of discovery programs and the development of standards and consistent approaches for VPoC Platform discovery programs, management of outsourced relationships, performance measurement, benchmarking, project information, resource optimization/allocation and information across VPoC programs.
This person will work closely with the head of biology and rest of the VPoC group to provide leadership in a matrix environment that spans Drug Discovery, MDR, and links to other parts of R&D. The role will have no direct reports but will achieve its goals through a complex matrix of internal GSK and external outsourced relationships |

| Requirements |
Preferred Qualification A broad biology background in multiple disease areas. Previous experience in working collaboratively with MDR and CEDD Organizations and a proven track record of success in delivery of results and objectives. Program leadership and management experience particularly in early phases of discovery such as target identification, hit/lead discovery, lead optimization and pre-candidate/candidate selection. Experience with progressing compounds through candidate selection and FTIH is highly desirable for Manager and essential for Director. Participation in strategic interfacing with MDR, external CROs, CEDDs, CEEDD, DD and other key research leaders at the local and transnational level in order to deliver and maximize the Drug Discovery process. Experience in external collaborations with academic or biotech companies is preferred. Ability to establish, drive and manage strategy across functions is essential for Director. |
