Description
Basic Qualification
•Ph.D. in Biology, cancer biology or a related field
•Minimum of 3 years experience in conduct of biomarker and translational research in Oncology clinical trials and have a good understanding of cancer biology and pathways
•Effective oral and written communication skills with presentation to technical and non-technical audiences
Details
The Clinical Biomarker Team in Cancer Research in the Oncology R&D Business Unit supports Clinical Biomarker research for the broad GSK oncology portfolio. To this end, the Clinical Biomarker Scientist is responsible for
? Evaluation of scientific research and technology to support biomarker activities and provide guidance to the clinical teams
? Key point of contact to clinical teams within Oncology R&D, Support and drive implementation of biomarker strategies that are defined by the clinical teams.
? Lead writing and editing of biomarker sections for clinical protocols and consent forms for oncology as needed
? Ensure successful implementation of biomarker strategies in compliance with GSK Human Biological Sample Management policies and procedures. Including:
o SOP development
o Language for protocols and ICF
o Data standards
o Assessment of biomarker research proposals
?Establish links between company and outside experts to initiate and expedite biomarker initiatives in oncology clinical studies. Interact well with external experts in field
? Serve as a point of contact for external vendors and collaborators as required
? Responsible for related laboratory assessments as required
? Represent the Clinical Biomarker Team at internal and external meetings as needed
? Coordinate efforts as they relate to pre-clinical and early phase development with clinical oncology partners. Including:
oContribute to clinical trial concepts to evalauate and implement novel biomarker technologies for potential future development
o Support compound development plans through implementing predictive, pharmacodymamic (PD) and safety biomarker strategies in early discovery.
Accountability:
? Contribute to strategies for technology advancement for biomarker research implementation
? Development and implementation of standardized practices for clinical trials in the Oncology R&D business unit. Advise and contribute to assigned team activities where needed.
? Establish and manage research and agreements with external collaborators/vendors
? Development of Educational processes for Biomarkers in clinical trials as needed
Complexity:
o Work closely with colleagues in Cancer Research and Medicines Development to ensure studies are conducted in partnership
o Represent the Clinical Biomarker Team in the appropriate matrix teams with product development
o Proactively identify and provide solutions to any issues that might impact timelines and goals
Requirements
Preferred Qualification
Ph.D. in Biology, cancer biology or a related field, including a
knowledge of cancer signaling pathways, cancer metabolism, cancer stem cells and/or epigenetics
