Basic Qualification
• Minimum Bachelors degree in science, communications/journalism, or nursing
• At least 3 years experience in scientific communications with an overall 5 years experience in pharmaceutical or drug development, or other relevant experience
• Understanding and experience of global commercial market place - US/Europe/International
• Proven track record of creating and managing effective scientific communications programs
• Ability to build personal credibility with external experts and interface at a high technical level.
• Strong matrix management skills. Ability to lead and guide others in dealing with complex projects and resolve complex issues
• Experienced in interacting with all levels of management and staff on a strategic level
• Ability to effectively persuade and influence others
• Ability to work autonomously much of the time
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and organizational skills
• Ability to travel both locally and internationally

• The Scientific Communications Strategy Director is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of communication and publication strategies within the Infectious Diseases Therapeutic Area (Anti-invectives and Anti-Virals) to ensure successful commercialization of products
• Provide strategic communication insight and execution in external expert activities, publications, symposia, internal medical meetings and product communications






Key Responsibilities :

• Develop communication strategies and programs to optimize the value of ID medicines to patients, prescribers, payers and to GSK share holders. Develop a robust Scientific Communications plan for key assets
o Develop a deep understanding of the science both of the diseases and the Key GSK Medicines in discovery and development. Assets and articulate the scientific advantage vs competitors to underpin the Medicine Vision
• Define and develop external expert strategy. Build professional relationships with the leaders in the anti-infective/anti-viral fields. Oversee, chair, and facilitate external expert workshops advisory boards and teleconferences to establish two-way communication and sharing of expertise
• Establish strong working relationships with key External Experts.
o Develop partnerships with External Expert to support the development of new medicines
o Manage advisory boards
o Oversee the R&D component of congress, symposia and event planning activities including liaison with societies/organizers and hotels/venues; management of development of commercial and scientific components; coordination of affiliate communication/activities; selection and management of external vendors (exhibit builders, medical education agencies, meeting planners); oversight of on-site activities; and reconciliation of all budgets
• Establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders internally.
o Work in partnership with MDLs/Project Leaders and GPS TA VP to lead the Scientific Communications strategy to align it with the Medicines Vision and Medicine Development Strategy.
o Lead a Global Communications Team or Network to align R&D and Regional Communications plans. Coordinate review of communication activities within the regions to ensure that they are aligned with delivery of key messages and brand development for the ID therapeutic area(s) or product(s)
o Provide a focal point of contact and scientific communications expertise for internal and external customers for the ID therapy area.
• Develop and manage operating plans and budgets in partnership with the MDL, commercial and clinical colleagues to achieve defined strategic objectives
• Oversee effort to ensure all activities and materials provided are reviewed and appropriately signed off, as well as ensuring that an archive of approved material is maintained
• Ensure appropriate selection and management of vendors with respect to budget, as well as ongoing management of relationship with vendors
Requirements
Preferred Qualification
• Advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, Pharm D)
• Infectious Diseases (antivirals, antibacterials, and/or diseases of the developing world) experience
