Basic Qualification
• BS plus 4+ years of laboratory experience or MS plus 2+ years of laboratory experience
• Strong molecular biology and cell biology skills, especially hands-on experience with various PCR methods and DNA sequencing platforms
• Experience with functional evaluation of small molecules using various assay formats
Details
The general responsibilities of this position will be to conduct selections against cell surface targets using DNA-tagged small molecule libraries, to carry selection outputs through data generation via high throughput sequencing methods, and to functionally test small molecule “hits” in a variety of functional assays. The candidate will use second generation DNA sequencing methods to analyze their own experiments, and samples from other scientists in the Cell and Molecular Technologies group. The ability to use novel cellular and biochemical methods against new target classes highly valued, as is a strong working knowledge of molecular technologies.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Develop, optimize and execute selection protocols against various cell surface protein targets
• qPCR and sequence analyses of selection outputs
• Basic mammalian cell culture, including transient protein expression and characterization, FACS analysis, and maintenance of multiple cell lines
• Perform high throughput DNA sequencing on the illumina GAII platform
• Manage sequencing throughput and instrument operation
• Participate in evaluation and interpretation of selection results
• Perform various functional assays to evaluate compounds delivered from chemists
• Communicate results to project teams
Requirements
Preferred Qualification
• Working knowledge of biochemistry
• Experience with selection based technologies such as phage-display or aptamer based technologies desirable
• Strong computer skills desired
