Description
Basic Qualification
• A Bachelor of Science in an engineering field (packaging preferred)
• Minimum 10 years experience in Pharmaceutical Packaging with experience in a variety of materials and dosage forms (solid, liquid, creams and lotions, etc.)
• Experience to include New Product Introductions as well as Post Approval Changes.
• Ability to design, qualify, and implement packaging designs from concept to commercial production.
• Communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively across a diverse customer base
• Specialist in all aspects of packaging components, packaging equipment and packaging testing (i.e., CR, Distribution, Metrology, Instron, Compendial, etc.).
• Knowledge of FDA, USP, CFR, and GMP requirements that apply to packaging.
• Specialist knowledge of packaging system compliance.
• Use of Operational Excellence tools and Quality By Design framework principles including basic knowledge of statistics (process capability, etc.)
• Knowledge of the performance of packaging component materials and processes, e.g. foils, plastics, glass, board, varnish, glues, inks, etc.
• Ability to work effectively in a matrix organisation across geographies and cultures.
Details
The Packaging Technology Operations service is accountable for all pack design changes (New Product Introductions (NPIs), Product Transfers, and Site Changes) in support of pack changes and packaging supply goals for NA, Europe, Japan, and External Supply Pharma sites. The Packaging Technology Operations service is responsible for supporting the Area Packaging Teams, interfacing with US, EU, and APJEM Markets and Commercial Brand Teams (Commercial (Centres of Excellence (CoEs)) to develop and drive packaging strategy and market requirement supply challenges.


The Packaging Technology Specialist, under the direction of the NA Packaging Technology Manager, is responsible for the interfacing with respective sites, procurement, suppliers, and pack change managers to deliver pack design and specification service for products supplied.

The Packaging Technology Specialists’ responsibilities for North America sites include:

• Technical Pack Design (primary, secondary and tertiary) activities for Global supply, including pack concept development for pack changes raised via through Service and Transformation Board direction; support may include but not limited to the following:
• Provide technical input to the development and implementation of standard packaging platforms in order to improve speed to market and decrease manufacturing complexity.
• Agile request (GPM System transactions)
• Provide pack tech resource to site projects (packaging equipment, value engineering, pack design change, material changes etc)
• Co-ordinate line trials on site with local resource
• Provide packaging platform and system expertise
• Create appropriate Design of Experiments (DOE) and qualification plans for packaging material system development/qualification
• Create and/or approve component specifications and drawings
• Support/review User Requirement Specifications (URS) for packaging equipment
• Approve Rationales, protocols and reports for Performance Qualifications (PQ) with packaging components
• Provide second line support for problem resolution involving packaging components at sites (technical expertise and working with suppliers)
• Work directly suppliers to resolve site supply issues.
• Creation and maintenance of packaging component drawings and specifications
• Use of Packaging Shared Service systems (Pack Service Initiation Forms (PIFs) and Pack Service Orders (PSOs) processes) as defined to ensure resource requirements, expertise, and key metrics are in place.
• Documenting all necessary packaging qualification testing of packs and pack components required for Sites, External Supply, Pack Standards, and Transformation activities.
• Support technical relationship with Packaging Component Suppliers
