At GSK we have the goal of becoming a world leader in biopharmaceuticals. Our Biopharm R&D unit was established to create an innovative biotech environment within a large pharmaceutical company, pulling on expertise across a broad range of therapy areas, meaning that both patient need and the best way to approach treatment using biopharmaceuticals is understood.
Building on our unique portfolio of antibody and antibody fragment-based technologies, we are challenging traditional antibody-based drug development. From the methods of drug delivery, to the types of disease and mechanisms that our antibodies can engage, we’re encouraging our scientists and physicians to think beyond today’s generation of antibody drugs.
With a team of world-leaders, we have a unique environment and a passion for novel science, technology and creativity, combined with the muscle and resources for successful delivery of much needed medicines for patients.
To cope with a large inflow of biopharmaceutical drug candidates to be selected for clinical development, we are continuing to expand our Translational Medicine group.
Director or Senior Director Translational Pharmacology & Discovery Medicine – Physician Roles in the US (Philadelphia)
Your core competence will cover the integration of knowledge of disease biology and drug targets with leadership of early clinical development of biopharmaceuticals through proof of concept (PoC). Your responsibilities will include clinical contribution to discovery of new targets for antibody drugs and development of translatable biomarkers in disease areas of your specialty or experience. Within GSK’s new projects-at-the-helm culture, you are fully empowered and accountable for formulating clinical development strategies, leading multi-disciplinary matrix teams and assuring patient safety with good medical governance. Comfortable taking a lead role in compound progression through different phases of clinical development, you’ll have the ability to recognise and exploit the need for enabling technologies and expertise both within GSK and externally, possibly through your networks.
Appointment as Director or Senior Director will depend on experience. In either role, you will be expected to provide both scientific and clinical leadership as well as have the skills to manage a large number of people in your matrix teams who do not report directly to you. Senior Director may have additional direct line management responsibilities.
These are high profile drug development leadership roles with great visibility within Biopharm and GSK R&D that will suit those of you who are scientifically orientated physicians looking to progress beyond your current career in industry or academia/hospital. Experience with antibodies or other biopharms is desirable but not essential; appropriate training will be provided by internal biopharm experts as part of our commitment to staff development. MD is required and specialism in clinical pharmacology or a therapeutic area is an advantage. Biopharmaceuticals cross many therapy areas and thus the roles offer you exceptional possibilities to impact the lives of so many patients across a wide range of diseases.
We offer a very competitive benefits, compensation and relocation package designed to attract and retain the best people. GlaxoSmithKline is dedicated to an innovative workplace and supports you not only with career long opportunities and learning but also provides higher medical training, if required, through our GSK Academy of Pharmaceutical Medicine and the flexibility to continue with some clinical or research duties outside GSK. |
