Title: Principal Scientist

Principal scientist
MedImmune is seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to join its Translational Sciences Department. The individual will take an active role in design strategy/experiments to elucidate the pathophysiology of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and to determine the mechanism of action of pipeline pre-clinical and clinical drugs in such disease settings. The successful candidate will be capable of leading a multi-technology approach to aid in the classification of patient subsets, and the identification of biomarkers associated with drug effect (PD) and clinical outcome. Experimental strategies will include proteomic approaches, cellular subsetting (flow cytometry), and in vitro and ex vivo studies. The candidate will be working both as an independent investigator and will lead and/or work with interdisciplinary teams to clarify the heterogeneity of the disease settings and to develop strategies to select the correct drug target for the different patient subpopulations. Studies will also be aimed at understanding the cellular interactions and pathways associated with differential responsiveness to drug treatments and, as such, to identify novel mechanisms, targets and biomarkers.
The successful candidate will work closely with the bioinformatics scientists and statisticians to integrate different types of datasets with the exploratory work including clinical, proteomic and pharmacogenomic data. The candidate will be expected to develop outside collaborations to investigate the diseases as well as to evaluate novel technologies that will aid in the acceleration or improvement of the biomarker strategy for drug development and selection. The candidate will present his/her work at both internal and external meetings and will work on both publications and patents.

Qualifications:
• PhD, MD or equivalent degree in a biology, immunology, or other related scientific discipline;
• Ten or more years of related experience in either academia or industry is required
• Ability to function as both a highly independent researcher and as a team member is required
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required
• Experience as project leader of cross functional teams, and significant exposure to translational research is highly desirable;
• Extensive knowledge about developing predictive biomarkers is preferable
• Past experience with bioinformatics is beneficial
