Title: Fellow, RIA Translational Sciences
Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters
Req: 01923
Position Summary: Fellow, RIA Translational Sciences position will play a key role in translating key information generated from preclinical discovery-research studies to clinical settings for respiratory drug candidates. The selected individual will serve as the key team player to lead and manage all aspects of the key translational activities related to RIA projects for respiratory drug candidates. The individual will coordinate and manage activities resulting from research and development for respiratory targets to expedite the entry of the respiratory drug candidate into clinical trials.
Additionally, the individual will serve as a key member to liaison all research and development activities between preclinical and clinical development for drug development leading to registration. The person will also serve as the RIA Translational Sciences liaison for internal and Medimmune / Astra Zenenca teams / governance bodies for respiratory drug candidates.

Position Requirements
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
• Develop an overarching Translational Science strategy and drug development plan for respiratory drug candidates to ensure efficient transition of a selected respiratory drug candidate into Phase I-II trials.
• Develop appropriate complimentary in vivo translational pharmacology models pertinent to respiratory diseases that will help to establish a relationship between dose, schedule, PK, and pharmacodynamics (e.g., mechanism of action, potential biomarkers).
• Serve a key point person to coordinate early activities of respiratory drug candidates for a successful transition of preclinical research to clinical settings.
• Serve as a project leader to direct / oversee key developmental activities of respiratory drug candidates in a project team setting after the nomination of a clinical candidate.
Educational Requirements
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. in biology with specialization in immunology and/or respiratory diseases. The candidate must have a strong publication record.
Experience: At least 10 years of experience with a minimum of 7 yrs experience in Biotech-Pharma industry in leading/managing drugs targeting immune system / respiratory disorders. Must have a strong understanding of pharmacology and animal models of respiratory diseases and translational aspects of the drug development.

Supervision: Candidate has to function at a high level of independency – he/she is required to perform all aspects / objectives of the position with minimal supervision.
