Title: Manager/Senior Manager, Clinical Operations/R&D Support
Location: MD, Gaithersburg - Corporate Headquarters
Req: 01924
Position Summary:
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
• Effectively communicate with all functional groups within R&D, Clinical Operations, Legal, Finance, Manufacturing etc
• Develop, Review and Analyze RFP’s (Request for Proposal) ensuring accuracy and appropriate content for outsourced services.
• Analyze supplier proposals and provide detailed cost analysis
• Demonstrated knowledge of Clinical Operations expertise within the Pharmaceutical Industry or related industry
• Evaluate Supplier Performance and Response to Deliverables utilizing appropriate Benchmarking Tools
• Facilitate Supplier Relationship Management and Governance and adhere to MedImmune and AZ Supplier Diversity Requirements
• Collaborate with business partners to create and execute category plans utilizing “best in class” strategic sourcing strategies and methodologies
• Lead cross functional teams sourcing projects through all key phases such as data collection & analysis, strategy development, RFX, award recommendation, contract negotiation & execution and implementation
• Drive continuous improvement in process, price, service, etc. through effective category management
• Develop category specific goals and objectives
• Study and track market dynamics to determine impact on cost, quality and risk
• Manage “key” supplier relationships and optimize supply base
• Collaborate with legal to establish optimal terms and conditions, pricing and key performance indicators
• Monitors and report category-specific savings and performance metrics
• Facilitate annual supplier reviews and assessments
• Assure compliance with SOX and Governmental contract requirements

Job Complexity: This is a highly complex position. The candidate will be required to “win” the
trust of stakeholders, establish strong relationships and drive stakeholder value
all while impacting the “bottom line”.
Supervision: The candidate will be a highly experienced individual contributor. He/she will be
empowered to independently drive results. Strategy will be determined through collaboration of Sourcing management and stakeholder input.
Educational Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field such as Supply Chain, Economics,
Finance or other. MBA a plus.
Experience:
• Minimum of 5 – 7 years sourcing experience preferably in the in the area of Procurement in the Bio-Tech, Pharmaceutical, or other like industries
• Three to Five years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and sourcing experience (MBA, CPM or ISM Certifications are preferred)
• Demonstrated success sourcing a wide range of goods and services to support a clinical operations and R&D environment
• Clear understanding of R&D Financing and CRO Supplier Cost and Pricing models
• Thorough understanding of legal aspects of sourcing to assist in contract development, execution and implementation
• Extensive experience and knowledge of current industry pricing for clinical trial conduct and associated services
• Familiarity with automated purchasing management systems (MedI uses SAP)
