Location: CA, Santa Clara - NON SALES

Position Summary:
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
The candidate will be part of the Cell Culture Product Development group in the Cell Culture Development Department working with a team developing the cell culture based vaccines. The candidate will be responsible for early stage upstream process development and will work in the development of cell culture processes for the production of human vaccine products. The main responsibilities include:
• Establish high throughput mammalian cell cloning and cell biology methods for generation of high yielding clones
• Define critical process parameters for growth of mammalian and other cell substrates in semi-solid growth medium for use in ClonePix FL high throughput cloning platform
• Define critical process parameters for identification of stable high yielding clones using ClonePix FL
• Assay development for quantitation & characterization of novel recombinant proteins for use in clone selection
• Design, perform and analyze cell culture experiments to improve product quality and yields at various scales including bioreactors
• Transfer cell culture-based manufacture process to cGMP production facility up to 2500L including creating process description and other required documentations and providing technical support during manufacturing campaigns
• Write technical reports, publications, regulatory files and present experiment data internally and externally
• Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve vaccine production.
The candidate will perform experiments independently with minimal supervision, record observations in accordance to compliance, analyze data and report results in both oral and written formats. The candidate is expected to prepare technical reports, experimental protocols, study summaries and publications in peer reviewed journals. The candidate should have a working knowledge and understanding of advanced research and its applications in supporting process development and manufacturing. | Requirements |
Position Requirements Special Skills/Abilities: Hands on experience with proficiency in Cell Biology, Suspension and Adherent
Mammalian cell culture in Small scale bioreactors is required. Working experience with high throughput cell culture robotic platforms, process scale up and process transfer and knowledge of protein quantitation, characterization and assay development are desirable. The candidate must be highly motivated with excellent oral and written communication skills and are detail oriented with excellent record keeping ability. Ability to multitask and working in cross-functional team environment a must. Experience with DOE and JMP software and data mining software is highly desirable. Knowledge in serum free media development and molecular biology is also a plus.
Job Complexity: The job complexity is high and requires a good understanding of advanced Cell biology and bioreactor process development
Supervision: The position reports into a senior scientist and is expected to work independently with minimal laboratory supervision Educational Requirements Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Bioengineering or life sciences related field required
Experience: 1 - 8 years experience in molecular and cell biology field, mammalian and/or prokaryotic culture bioreactor process development. Working experience in cell culture media and feed, adherent and suspension culture process development is preferred.
