Title: Associate Scientist I/II
Location: CA, Santa Clara - NON SALES

Position Summary:
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
The candidate will be part of the Cell Culture Product Development group in the Cell Culture Development Department working with a team to develop the cell culture based vaccines. The candidate will be responsible for supporting early upstream process development t by developing advanced high-throughput cloning and cell biology methods. The candidate will also be responsible for generating high yielding clones for vaccine candidates, establishing culture conditions for mammalian and other cell substrates in semi-solid growth medium for use in ClonePix FL, defining critical process parameters for stable high yielding cell clone identification. Additional responsibilities will include performing routine analysis for protein expression, protein quantitation and assay development. The candidate must be proficient in cell biology, molecular biology methods including high throughput qRT-PCR. The candidate will perform experiments independently with minimal supervision, record observations in accordance to compliance, analyze data and report results in both oral and written formats. The candidate is expected to prepare technical reports, experimental protocols, study summary and publications in peer reviewed journals. The candidate should have a working knowledge and understanding of basic research and its applications in supporting process development and manufacturing. It is preferable the candidate have a good understanding of cGLP/GMP practices.

Position Requirements
Special Skills/Abilities: Proficiency in Cell Biology and Molecular Biology tools including ability to work with ClonePix FL, mammalian cell culture, GUAVA, ABI 7900 real-time PCR & SDS software; BioRad iCycler real-time PCR & software, Gene expression profiling and use of data mining software (STAT-Miner). Assay development experience for ELISA and WB preferable. It is preferable that the candidate has working knowledge of reverse genetics and basic virology.
Job Complexity: The job is moderately complex, requires a good understanding of advanced Cell and molecular biology, basic biology/chemistry/virology and analytical tools
Supervision: The position reports into a senior scientist and is expected to work independently with minimal laboratory supervision

Experience: M.S 2-3 years experience; B.S; 3-5 years
