Description
Title: Associate Scientist I/II Location: Gaithersburg, MD Corporate Headquarters Req: 01839 Position Summary: Major Duties and Responsibilities: The person filling this position will be responsible for technology development with an emphasis on immunoassays, quantitative PCR and cell based assays in a cGMP compliant Analytical Biochemistry lab. Primary responsibilities include assisting in the evaluation, and implementation of new technologies relevant to the Analytical Biochemistry laboratory. This role will also include technology transfers between the group and internal/external partners. Additional responsibilities will include preparing/characterizing/qualifying immunoreagents using various labeling and purification techniques, developing new 96 and 384-well based assays using colorimetric, fluorometric, and chemiluminescent detection methods, quantitative PCR, and troubleshooting existing assays. The chosen candidate will be responsible for maintaining a cGMP compliant notebook, to operate in a cGMP compliant laboratory, and to author various documents in the area (SOPs, validation plans/reports, development reports, etc.). They will be expected to make significant contributions to ongoing projects, to survey the literature to keep abreast of developments in the field, and to recommend and evaluate new technology that will improve the quality and/or efficiency of our work. They will be expected to attend relevant project team meetings, and to present data as necessary at all relevant meetings.

Position Requirements
Special Skills/Abilities: Should have an excellent overall understanding of analytical biochemistry, a good working knowledge of protein column chromatographic techniques (affinity, protein A/G, size exclusion) and ELISA assays using a variety of detection techniques (colorimetric, chemiluminescent, fluorescent). Also, a working knowledge of various protein labeling chemistries is required. Experience with laboratory instrumentation (ELISA plate readers/washers, single/multichannel pipetors, protein fractionation equipment) is required; and experience with laboratory robotics and quantitative PCR is also a plus. Job Complexity: Moderate Supervision: Once trained the selected candidate will be expected to operate in a fairly independent manner. (supervision required, level of independence)
Educational Requirements
Education: Masters degree with 1-5 or Bachelors degree with 5+ years of experience.
