Title: Senior Scientist
Location: CA, Santa Clara - NON SALES
Req: 02227
Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
The candidate will be part of a team working to develop purification of MedImmune vaccine candidates and reagents from animal tissues, microbial sources and eucaryotic cell culture. The candidate will be responsible for development strategy as well as the design and execution of experiments leading to an effective, controlled and scalable purification processes. The candidate should also have some supervisory experience and be able to work effectively with junior and senior staff as well as other groups in the Research, Development, Regulatory Clinical, and Quality areas. The candidate will be responsible for supporting purification and reagent development for Research for preclinical studies and development purification projects. Additional responsibilities will include development of in-process characterization assays. The candidate should have a strong academic background and be thoroughly versed in separations technology. A through knowledge of cGMPs and regulatory guidance documents is a plus.

Position Requirements
Special Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Familiarity with writing Technical Reports, Batch Production Records, SOPs and other process documents. Familiarity with computer software including word processing, data evaluation and software interface with process equipment.
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and prior GMP experience as well as supervisory experience are also required.
Job Complexity: The job is complex, requiring a good grasp of the biological and chemical properties vaccine antigens and virus structure. A demonstrated familiarity and proficiency with the skills involved in GMPs, separations technology and laboratory analytical techniques are required.
Supervision: Work independently without appreciable direction.
Educational Requirements
Requirements/Qualifications:
Education: PhD Biochemical or chemical engineering, chemistry or biochemistry.
Experience: PhD 7-10 years or MS 13-15 years
